Each projects earns 0.3 RID Professional Studies CEUs upon completion (or equiv clock hours certificate)*
Each of these projects exposes participants to videos from well known and respected open-source materials on the internet (ie: TedX, Street Leverage, Gallaudet University, DeafMD.org, etc) on topics in Deaf culture, interpreting skills, and specialty topics to earn CEUs. RID CEUs are overseen & administered by RID Sponsor: Ginevra Deianni. Chose from many options including: voice interpreting practice, music interpretations, professional ethics, medical interpreting, and legal interpreting. Participants watch approx 150 mins worth of videos (link provided to videos), take notes, and write reflection essays on what they have learned. No book purchases required - all videos are free on-line and there is no specific time you must log in. Work at your own pace. (Deaf interpreters can return their reflections in video format using ASL instead of the written English documentation if they prefer. Please ask upon registration for this request.).
Interpreters can do multiple projects under the same topic (ie: Professional Ethics: Part 1, 2, 3...) since there are an abundance of videos to chose from in each category - simply choose different videos to view for each separate project, and earn 0.3 CEUs for each Part (1, 2, 3...)
*Professional Ethics projects earn Ethics Study specialization category, as well as RID professional studies credit.
- For music interpreting practice: participants gloss interpretations and assess grammar & classifier use.
- For voicing interpreting practice, participants audio tape practice voicing sessions from chosen videos in our collection, and then gloss their work. The written gloss is returned - no audio recordings are sent.
Please feel free to email us anytime to ask for curriculum specifics on any project, or sample questions/materials. We want you to feel comfortable with what you are registering for.
