RID CMP Standards & Guidelines for Sponsors specifically states that continuing education projects cannot be solely focused on entertainment materials. Entertainment materials/events can be used as a supplement to larger measurable learning objectives in a project, but cannot be the only focus. Since the primary intent of most fictional novels and blockbuster films is for entertainment, iCEU Central (and RID's CMP Handbook) do not deem these as valid learning experiences, worthy of RID CEUs. You may see advertisements for these kinds of projects - they may be of questionable integrity, so buyer/interpreter beware.
iCEU Central only chooses materials rooted in the educational research of cultural anthropology studies, linguistics, social justice/oppression work, professional ethics, and interpreting practices. These are materials you will find in any university course with a goal to deepen one's critical thinking skills and cultural knowledge base with the same aim as higher education. Our project offerings are curated from non-fictional documented accounts of lived experiences, researched phenomena, languages and world events that impact our work as interpreters, and the clients we serve.
